General presentation

The Gymnase Intercantonal de la Broye (GYB) is a secondary high school located in Payerne. It first opened in August 2005 with 300 students. Its full capacity is about 800 students. The GYB offers two sections, one getting to an academic level, to enter Universities, the Maturity section, and the other giving access to third level specialised and professional schools, the General Studies section.

Diplomas

The 3 main diplomas delivered in the GYB are the following:

• Certificate of Maturity (corresponding to 3 to 4 years of school, depending on the canton or state)
• Certificate of General Studies, with a business, a social and a health option, (corresponding to 3 years of school)
• Certificate of Professional Maturity (business). 

Students

The students attending the GYB are between 16 and 21 years old. They come from two different cantons or states with different educational programmes. In the GYB, the students are mixed in the same classes, following, hence, the same curricula. This is a first in Switzerland where every canton has its own educational system.
